Triple Dance Class:
Tap, Jazz and Ballet

Triple Dance Classes are our recommended next step after Pre-School Dance for children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2. Each 90-minute class combines Tap, Jazz and Ballet in one structured weekly session.

Best For

  • Children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2
  • Children moving on from Pre-School Dance
  • Building a broad Tap, Jazz and Ballet foundation

In class

Triple Dance Classes give young dancers a proper weekly block of time in the studio, rather than a quick 30-minute visit. Each class moves through Tap, Jazz and Ballet in one connected session, so children get variety while still building the habits, focus and confidence that help them progress. We introduced this format in 2020 and have kept it because it gives children a broader base before they specialise by timetable.

Progression

At this early school-age stage, Tap, Jazz and Ballet are one combined offering at JL. From Year 3, as the syllabus work becomes wider and more detailed, students move into individual classes for each genre.

What to wear

For a trial, fitted comfortable clothes are best, with clean shoes your child can move safely in. Once enrolled, we will guide you on the correct uniform and footwear for Tap, Jazz and Ballet.

How enrolment appears

Parents may see this enrolment separated into three class lines on their bill. That separation is for examination and record-keeping purposes only. Each class itself is one combined 90-minute Triple Dance Class.

Common questions

Can my child do just Tap, Jazz or Ballet at this age?

No. For children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, Tap, Jazz and Ballet are taught together as one Triple Dance Class. This is the route we recommend because it gives young dancers the strongest start.

Why is the class 90 minutes instead of 30 minutes?

A longer class gives children time to settle, learn, change focus and build consistency across three styles. In our experience, this works better for early school-age dancers than lots of separate short classes.

Are Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 all in one class?

The groups are separate. We'll often group the two smallest groups together, e.g. usually "Reception & Y2" and a "Y2" class. It isn't one giant class!

What happens from Year 3?

From Year 3, dancers move into individual Tap, Ballet and Modern classes. By then, they have a broad foundation and are ready for the genres to become more detailed.

Can my child also do Acro or Musical Theatre?

Yes. Acro and Musical Theatre are separate options for this age group, but we strongly recommend Triple Dance Classes as the core starting point.
