what we commit to something to be aware of

01

Regular class fees

Your yearly class fee is spread evenly across 12 monthly payments, so you pay the same amount each month including holiday months. This is smoothed billing, not an annual commitment. If you leave, you pay to the end of your notice month and nothing further, calculated against your confirmed leaving date. The remaining months of the year are not owed, beyond any outstanding balance for classes already attended or committed.

  • Payments are collected automatically on the 14th of the month, for the month ahead.
  • If you join part-way through a month, your first payment is pro-rated for that month, minus the cost of any trial lessons you have already paid for.
  • The annual membership fee is £24, running from September to August, charged again each September. It is pro-rated when you join part-way through the year, counting the month you join, and rounded to the nearest pound. It is not refunded on leaving.
  • Exams, shows, competitions, costumes, workshops and private lessons are optional and charged separately after the cost and commitment have been explained.
02

Failed or late payments

Please contact us before the due date if payment will be difficult. Early conversation usually gives us more sensible options.

  • If a payment fails, we will tell you straight away and explain how to put it right.
  • A £15 administration charge applies after 10 days, to cover the administrative cost of handling a failed or late payment. Exceptional circumstances are considered.
  • Exams, shows, competitions, workshops and private lessons cannot be booked while an account is more than 14 days overdue, after we have been in contact and given a reasonable opportunity to resolve it.
  • If the account is still overdue after 30 days, and contact and a reasonable opportunity to resolve it have not worked, enrolment may end.
03

Fee reviews

  • Regular class fees are normally reviewed for September. JL will give at least 30 days’ notice of any fee increase before it applies.
  • If you do not want to continue after a fee increase, tell us before the increase applies. You can leave the affected regular class without the usual notice, and we will calculate any final balance or credit to the confirmed leaving date.
04

Refunds, credits and cancellation

  • Ordinary missed classes are not refunded. Where longer absence applies, see Classes and attendance in the Enrolment terms and conditions.
  • If JL cancels a class and cannot provide a suitable replacement or make-up class, we will normally give an account credit. A refund is given where a credit is not workable. JL decides suitability acting reasonably. If we make a material change to a class instead of cancelling it outright, see Classes and attendance in the Enrolment terms and conditions.
  • Private lessons need 72 hours’ notice for a refund, and studio hire needs 48 hours’ notice. With less notice, the booking is not refunded unless we can fill the slot or exceptional circumstances apply.
  • Event, exam, competition, costume and third-party booking fees are non-refundable once we have entered the exam or competition, placed the costume order, paid the supplier, or otherwise become liable to someone else. We will always confirm a cost before committing it.
  • Any retained amount or cancellation charge must be proportionate to JL’s actual commitment and loss. Statutory rights remain unaffected.
05

Notice and final payments

Give notice in writing. If we receive it before the 14th of the month, your next payment will not be collected and your place ends at the end of that month. If we receive it on or after the 14th, that month’s payment has already been taken and is not refunded, so your place runs to the end of the following month.

For example: notice given on 10 December ends your place on 31 December. Notice given on 20 December ends your place on 31 January.

Cancelling a direct debit on its own is not treated as notice. Please tell us directly, so we can confirm your leaving date and calculate anything due or credited.

Something does not fit your situation?

If affordability, access, safety, welfare or another relevant circumstance affects how a policy applies, email [email protected] before making a commitment. We will explain the rule and confirm any agreed exception in writing.
