Payments, refunds and cancellations
Your annual class fee covers the academic year and is divided into 12 equal monthly instalments. A holiday-month payment is therefore part of the annual total, not a charge for weeks when JL is closed.
Regular class fees
- Payments are collected automatically on the 14th for the month ahead.
- The annual membership fee is £24 from September to August.
- Joining, changing or leaving part-way through the year is calculated fairly against the confirmed dates.
- Exams, shows, competitions, costumes, workshops and private lessons are optional and charged separately after the commitment is explained.
Failed or late payments
Please contact us before the due date if payment will be difficult. Early conversation usually gives us more sensible options.
- We will notify you of a failed payment and give a reasonable opportunity to resolve it.
- A £15 administration charge may apply after 10 days only where it fairly reflects the work and cost caused. Exceptional circumstances are considered.
- Extras cannot be booked while an account is materially overdue.
- Classes may pause after 14 days when contact and a reasonable opportunity to resolve the account have not worked.
Refunds, credits and cancellation
- Ordinary missed classes are not normally refunded; long-term illness, injury and exceptional circumstances are considered individually.
- If JL cancels and cannot provide a suitable alternative, a fair credit or refund will be given.
- Private lessons normally require 72 hours’ notice for a refund. Studio hire normally requires 48 hours’ notice.
- Event, exam, costume and third-party booking fees are usually non-refundable once booked or committed, so please consider your commitment carefully.
- Any retained amount or cancellation charge must be proportionate to JL’s actual commitment and loss. Statutory rights remain unaffected.
Final payments
Give notice in writing. JL will confirm the last attendance date and provide a clear calculation of anything due or credited under the annual-fee arrangement. Payment alone is not treated as acceptance of these terms; acceptance is recorded separately at enrolment.
Legal and guidance basis
These sources explain the legal or official-guidance background. Not every practical JL rule is imposed by a particular Act: where it is JL’s own rule, it is written to be clear, proportionate and consistent with the sources below.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015 The main UK legislation on consumer services and fair contract terms.
- CMA: How to write fair contracts Official guidance on clear terms, advance payments and proportionate cancellation charges.
Something does not fit your situation?
Email [email protected] before making a commitment. We will explain the rule, consider relevant circumstances and confirm any agreed exception in writing.
