Safeguarding and child protection

Every child has the right to feel and be safe at JL. We listen, record and act on concerns, use suitable staff and professional boundaries, and share information with safeguarding agencies when necessary to protect a child.

01

Our commitment

  • The child’s welfare comes first and concerns are taken seriously.
  • Staff receive safeguarding information appropriate to their role.
  • JL uses role-appropriate recruitment and DBS checks where the law permits and the work requires them.
  • One-to-one teaching, changing arrangements, online contact and external events use clear professional boundaries.
  • CCTV is never installed or used in toilets or changing areas.
02

Raising a concern

Tell the teacher or email [email protected] and mark the message Safeguarding.

If a child is in immediate danger, call 999. Anyone may contact Derbyshire children’s social care or the police directly without JL’s permission.

03

How JL responds

  • Listen without leading questions or promising secrecy.
  • Make a factual, dated record and share it only with people who need to know.
  • Make the immediate situation safe and seek advice or refer to the appropriate agency.
  • Use the local-authority process for an allegation involving staff or volunteers.
  • Support the child without carrying out an investigation that another agency should lead.
04

Everyday safeguarding

  • Parents keep emergency, medical and collection information current.
  • Children leave through the recorded collection or independent-departure arrangement.
  • Staff use official communication routes and normally include a parent in communication about a child.
  • A child’s immediate wish not to be photographed is respected even where general permission exists.
  • Missing-child and late-collection situations prioritise supervision, prompt contact and agency advice where needed.

Something does not fit your situation?

Email [email protected] before making a commitment. We will explain the rule, consider relevant circumstances and confirm any agreed exception in writing.
